This place is a significant source of food for elderly and homebound citizens in Huntsville.
This a true community garden planted and maintained by volunteers. This garden's harvest is distributed freely to the elderly and homebound of Madison County, Alabama. It is the most community-oriented community garden of its type in the U.S. In 2001, this 1/3 acre garden harvested over 19,000 pounds of vegetables, helping feed over 7,500 of our community's senior citizens.
We are in the process of moving to a new location at 4700 block of the Bob Wallace Ave, Huntsville, Alabama.
Yes, we have scarecrows and a beautiful garden.
Although this is a functional, working garden operation, we do have visitors from time to time.
Volunteers usually meet other individuals wishing to help others. We do have a lot of social interaction.
The garden operates under the auspices of CASA (Care Assurance System for the Aging and Homebound), a non-profit, 501 c(3) organization. The garden projects involves many different volunteers throughout our community.
