Placemaking is becoming a major social movement, from big cities to small towns all across the globe! Over the past few years we’ve seen an explosion of energy from Placemakers down under, and today, just as this movement is taking off, Australia is perfectly positioned to be one of the international leaders in the field. Over the next few months, PPS will be involved in several key events around the country focused on how Placemaking can become a more coherent, unified movement, and we wanted to give you a head’s up! After more than a dozen Aussies came to our Stockholm Future of Places conference and our Detroit Placemaking Leadership Council meeting, Place Leaders and the City of Adelaide are generously convening Placemaking leaders from Australasia and South Asia to further articulate and advance Placemaking as a global development agenda. Adelaide has truly been leading in Place Governance, and will showcase its bold organizational and on-the-ground Lighter, Quicker, Cheaper transformations. The European Cyclists’ Federation is hosting this major conference in Adelaide, and Placemaking will be a major theme in 2014. Keynote speakers will include Ethan Kent, NYC DOT commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan, and Copenhagenize founder Michael Colville-Anderson, who keynoted our Pro Walk/Pro Bike: Pro Place conference in California in 2012.
