Yeouido Park, which once served as a military airport, and then huge playground for bike and roller blade users, has been changed into an ecologically healthy environment since 1997. The total size of the park is 5.5acre and it consists of 4 zones: Korean traditional garden, green yard, cultural plaza and natural ecological forest. The Park serves three major functions to Seoul citizens: provides a place for rest, meeting, and communication in the public plaza; offers environment education opportunities now and for many generations to come; and supports exhibitions, which illustrate traditional and historic features of Korea.
You can easily access on foot, by bus, subway, or car. The bus transit is located at the main street in front of the park. When you arrive at the park, you may walk around the park through the walking path or may rent bike at the bike rental shops around the park. The bike trail is separated with the walking path for the pedestriansÍ safety.
Although the park is surrounded with business buildings, you can feel comfortable and natural mood when you enter the park. There is no vehicle in the park except bikes and in-line skates. Volunteers are always welcome for the maintenance of the park. A police station is located inner side of the park for the safe of the visitors. There are many facilities such as benches, picnic tables, restrooms, traditional Korean pavilions, bike-rental shops, and snack bars around the park.
The people from the office buildings can easily access at the park during the lunch break and take a walk or bring their lunch boxes group by group for outdoor lunch. Some people come to rest, take a walk, or picnic. Students come to picnic, or field trips. The park has many environmental and ecological programs for kids, teens and adults, and has many events such as music festivals, painting exhibitions, and dance festivals around the year.
The major users of the park are office workers around the park, pre-school pupils, and students. During the weekend, family members from neighbor to Seoul wide are dominating the park. From here and there you can see many couples to enjoy the weather and ride the couple-bike.
