Columbia City Square downtown Columbia, KY 42728
Columbia City Square is a traditional, small hometown square. Our beautiful, old, white courthouse sits in the center with unique and colorful business surrounding it. Small trees and nostalgic buildings stand at each corner. The old jewelry store known as Grimsley's sits next to our beloved Columbia Theater, which recently underwent a state-of-the-art renovation. Sometimes this tall fountain flows with colored water. The fountain is decorated with flower boxes and benches. In addition to the historic courthouse, the town center is also home to many charming consignment stores, antique stores and coffee and sandwich shops. These buildings surround the beautiful First National Bank. On the other corner is the huge Bank of Columbia with the old clock that continues to keep perfect time. The folks in Columbia are friendly. It often feels as if we are living in a simpler time- but with the many benefits of the today's high tech world available to us. All of us in Columbia are very proud of our hometown Lindsey Wilson College. We are also proud of the great Adair County School system and our award-winning Adair county high school band. This band will be featured in Macy's Parade this year. Hopefully this article can provide just a short glimpse at a few of the attractions and businesses, churches and hard working citizens in Columbia.
www.columbiamagazine.com is a great resource for city and county residents and anyone who wants to visit the state and parkway.
This is one of the cleanest areas of the city. On any given day, you can notice an equal distribution of women and men, children and seniors, in the space. Retired folks find it a dream city because it is small, quiet and entertainment is easy to find. Crime rates are low and neighbors are friendly. There are excellent schools. Wonderful city and state police officers work with neighborhood watch groups to keep our town safe. Traffic flows smoothly we have a bypass that is due to open shortly taking the traffic out of downtown areas.
This street is used by many different groups from senior citizens to school-aged children.
The people here take pride in their hometown.
In Columbia, many citizens dream of one day reclaiming Burkesville Street and adjoining it to the square. We hope to make it into a people-friendly downtown square. The goal is to adjust traffic flows to make this street a 2-way passage complete with a medium, grass, add trees and flowers with park benches on either side, to accommodate a variety of users, including pedestrians, cyclists, and cars.
