A flexible use street that on the weekends becomes a market place, a place to gather and a place for the community to come together. URLS: http://www.affps.com
This is a typical street access/meter parking area during the week, but on the weekends it comes alive with street merchants and small business owners. More importantly it becomes a viable place for the community to come together. An area visited by shoppers is now a place that the community spends many hours, shopping, talking and spending time with friends and family. It has become a destination for visitors, tourist and residents alike.
Steps from the Metro/Marta system. The local Trolley tour has made it a destination stop on the weekends and anyone can walk to it from their residence or while they are out shopping.
It completely changes the look of the area, with clean white tents and people everywhere, it has become a destination instead of a parking/street area. Atlantic Station has private around the clock security and a staff that spends the day cleaning and sweeping up. It's truly a fun and enjoyable place for the entire family.
On the weekends it has become a place that the community and neighbors come to visit and tourist gather to socialize. It welcomes all social economical backgrounds and cultures. It's a place for people.
Everyone is equal and together, people now come to gather and spend time. Instead of walk through as a street it has now become a destination for the entire community.
The Atlantic Station Market was developed with assistance from the Atlanta Foundation for Public Spaces, LLC as a way of integrating and encouraging both social interactions and the opportunity for individuals and businesses to obtain cross exposures to new market places. The Atlantic Station Market enjoys diverse social and economic participants. The Atlantic Station market is professionally managed and maintained to create a "destination" in which both public and private opportunities for economic growth can be explored. The Atlantic Station Market is located on 130 acres in the newest mixed-use district of shops, townhouses, and office buildings in Atlanta. The site was originally a different kind of city landmark: Atlantic Steel. At its height in the 1950's, the mammoth mill put out 60 products and provided a living to some 2,000 people and their families, many of whom lived in the surrounding neighborhood. Today, the Atlantic Station development is home to several anchor retail tenants such as Dillards, Publix and Regal Cinemas, many unique boutiques and a range of townhouses, and high rise condos, creating a true "live, work, play" environment. The development is the recipient of many awards recognizing the reclamation of a former "brownfield," and the creation of a truly new urban design for living. The Atlantic Station Market hosts a regular weekend open air public market on Saturdays and Sundays as well as an Artists Market on alternating Friday nights.
