Course Session Dates:

Course Description:

Project for Public Spaces is taking its long-running "Placemaking: Making it Happen” training online, featuring new content along with the enduring lessons and examples from the original in-person training.

Over the course of four weeks, this training will build on participants’ knowledge of placemaking concepts, and provide the tools to implement and manage individual projects. It is mainly geared toward professionals and students who have an understanding of placemaking and are currently working on projects either personally or professionally, however it is open to anyone who has a general interest in placemaking.

During the training we will present and discuss the definitions, concepts, methodologies, and implementations of placemaking and related projects, see footage from multiple sites in the US and abroad to analyze public spaces using a range of our place analysis tools and techniques, and learn from experienced professionals.

Topics will include:

What to Expect:

Four core training sessions - These core sessions will be hosted for two hours, with about half of the time dedicated to presentations, and the other half for breakout discussions and guest speakers.

Dedicated networking sessions - Between core sessions there will be facilitated networking opportunities to connect with fellow course participants and share your own work, challenges, and ideas.

Additional special topic sessions led by guest presenters - Two shorter 1 to 1.5 hour sessions offered between core sessions that dive deeper into specific topics. Similar to the core sessions, about half the time will be devoted to presentations and half to discussion and group exercises.

Supplemental assignments and resources - Weekly assignments will build upon the content of the core sessions and help you apply the tools and concepts discussed during the training to your own work. Relevant articles, guides, and videos will also be made available to supplement your learning.

‍Scholarship application:

The scholarship application for this training has now closed. Please note we only have a limited amount of scholarship funding and our process will follow a pay-what-you-can model where you will propose what you are able to pay to attend this training. This amount will not factor into your application review.

Historically, placemaking as a profession has only been accessible to a privileged few. To that end, this scholarship application process will prioritize candidates from low-income communities, communities of color, and other communities affected by social inequities. Priority will also be given to candidates who clearly describe how the training will support their current work or professional development.

Application Deadline:
