Registration opens on March 15 and closes on May 14, 2026.
On-demand course access will be available May 15 to July 15, 2026.
This on-demand training teaches the essentials of creating thriving, economically sustainable public markets that serve as inclusive community gathering places. Through topic-focused modules, video tours of markets worldwide, and guided activities, you'll learn what it takes to build extraordinary markets that maximize community benefits. The content draws on insights from Project for Public Spaces' Market Cities Program, along with lessons and examples from our diverse network of public market professionals.
This foundational course is perfect for anyone new to public markets, including new managers, staff, and board members at existing markets, as well as developers, Main Street managers, city officials, and food advocates looking to bring a new market to life or to revitalize an existing one.
Those looking for more hands-on guidance on day-to-day market operations should check out the Market Cities Program’s other offerings, including technical assistance, networking opportunities, and online resources.

New On-Demand Format! Enjoy the new “at-your-own-pace” format, where you can make your way through 6+ hours of content on your own time. The training consists of recorded presentations and guest videos presented in a series of modules that you complete one by one, with extra time dedicated to activities, discussion boards, quizzes, and readings.
Office Hours. Registered attendees will also have access to two (2) office hour sessions. Virtually meet your fellow attendees and discuss training-related questions and challenges with your core speakers.
To help those who cannot cover the cost of registration, we will offer a “Pay What You Can” option, where you can propose what you can pay for the training. We have a limited number of scholarships available. We will grant scholarships to those who demonstrate financial need and who will benefit directly from the training for their professional growth.
This scholarship application process will prioritize candidates from low- and middle-income countries, as well as people living in vulnerable situations (including, but not limited to, people impacted by racial, ethnic, national, religious, or linguistic discrimination; immigrants and refugees; women; and LGBTQI+ people).
Please apply here for the scholarship by Thursday, April 16, 2026 at 11:59pm ET. Notifications will be sent out in late April. For questions, reach out to us at events@pps.org.
Attendees are eligible for AICP credits. After the training, visit the American Planning Association website to register for your AICP CM credits.
If credit card payment is not an option, please email events@pps.org to request to pay by invoice (via check or wire transfer). Once your payment is received, we will send instructions on how to register.
