In a historic move, the United States recently announced the opening of communication with Cuba making it easier to visit and explore the amazingly walkable cityscape that is Havana. In 2006, Ethan Kent of Project for Public Spaces had the opportunity to witness this unique urban environment firsthand - and came back with a wealth of information about Havana’s public spaces, urban life, and streets of all sizes. More than anything though, the city offers an important contrast to many of the misdirected development patterns of American modernization.
