2009 Making Places Update:In 2005, PPS co-founded The New York City Streets Renaissance campaign, a grassroots initiative that has catalyzed the transformation of the city’s transportation policy and brought sweeping change to NYC streets in a few short years. The campaign’s latest victory was recently announced -- NYC's Broadway has been shrunk two lanes for gardens, seating, and bike lanes.  This bold paradigm shift may pave the way for pedestrian-friendly planning policies in major cities around the world.

2009 Making Places Update: In 2008, skyrocketing fuel prices led to a nation-wide awakening on the importance of freedom from oil dependency.  Even as fuel prices dropped in early 2009, public transit ridership reached its highest volume in 52 years.
