As 2017 comes to an end, we are reflecting on the biggest things that happened this year in the world of placemaking. And what could be bigger or better than the success of Placemaking Week in Amsterdam? This past October, placemakers from all over the world (47 countries to be exact) convened in Amsterdam for a five day long whirlwind of activities including local workshops as well as numerous city expeditions to other parts of the Netherlands. We would like to formally thank everyone who joined us in the City of Canals to make this event possible, and we hope that it was a great learning experience that left you with plenty of placemaking ideas and inspiration. To help you revisit the experience as you look back on your own 2017, take a look at the newly-released Placemaking Week 2017 conference report!

The report is a snapshot of sessions, events, and outcomes that includes a full list Place Games and City Expedition reports, as well as a range of great photos from partners and attendees. Not only did Placemaking Week provide the City of Amsterdam with a wealth of ideas, experience, and connections to help take the movement forward, but the city also gave us an experience we will never forget.

Much of what made Placemaking Week 2017 such a special event was the relationship and collaboration between the multiple partners that helped to create, develop, and host the event. Working together with STIPO, Pakhuis de Zwijger, and Placemaking Plus enabled the week to have a very local focus, as well as strong local impacts. One of the most important outcomes of Placemaking Week was the creation of a European Placemaking Network, led by partner organization STIPO, to facilitate collaboration and learning across the continent. If you haven’t joined yet, make sure to do so!

To keep the momentum of Placemaking Week going, not only is this post announcing the conference report, but its purpose is also to give a major shout out to those of you who wrote about the event. See what presenters and attendees alike had to say about their experience in Amsterdam by clicking through the links below. Keep the stories coming everyone, and if you’ve written something we’ve overlooked, please reach out to us!
