Project for Public Spaces Writes Feature Article in Urban Land Magazine on Placemaking

New York, NY, September 10, 2008 – Project for Public Spaces (PPS), a non-profit organization dedicated to helping people create and sustain public places that build communities, contributed the lead article in the August issue of UrbanLand Magazine. Focusing on progressive urban planning initiatives around the world, the article reaffirms that PPS is recognized internationally as a leader in introducing Placemaking as an important approach to creating destinations that define communities.

Authored by PPS Founder and President Fred Kent, the article, titled “Place Making Around the World,” highlights global examples of dynamic public spaces developed with community use in mind.  The article indicates a significant step toward engaging developers in focusing on community contributions in the early stages of urban planning.

“Placemaking” as defined by PPS, refers to the creation of public spaces where people are able to engage in a number of activities and create an emotional connection. For more than 30 years, PPS has advocated that Placemaking be driven by community input and analysis, resulting in public spaces that provide comfortable places to socialize, play and interact.
