Urban Parks online is produced and

Contact Information listed below
The Urban Parks Institute was established in 1996 to help improve the quality of urban parks, especially in underserved neighborhoods, by educating public, private and nonprofit sector leaders about best practices in urban park revitalization. Through all of our activities, and especially on Urban Parks online, we promote interdisciplinary and collaborative problem-solving, encouraging a range of professions, groups, and interests to take part in the ongoing effort to restore and revitalize parks, transforming them into true community places. In addition to producing Urban Parks online, we:
- plan, organize, and host annual conferences and
regional workshops for a range of leaders involved in urban parks
- develop publications, proceedings, and research
- provide technical assistance to public, private, and
nonprofit organizations working to improve parks
- honor parks and other public places with our annual
Great Parks/Great Cities Awards, inaugurated in 2001

Project for Public Spaces (PPS) has more than 25 years of experience as a nonprofit technical assistance, research and educational organization. Our mission - to create and sustain public places that build communities - is achieved through programs in transportation; parks, plazas and central squares; public markets; and community institutions and public buildings. Since our founding in 1975, we have worked in over 1,000 communities in the U.S. and abroad, helping people to grow their public spaces into vital community places. Find out more about PPS.
Urban Parks online is funded by a grant from the
Wallace-Reader's Digest Funds.
