Complete Streets

In order to accomplish the goals of creating vital places and increasing safety for all street users, it is necessary to achieve a balance among pedestrian, bicycle, and vehicular uses, while developing a mix of amenities and activities that contribute to pedestrian convenience and enjoyment, an idea often referred to as Complete Streets.

The National Complete Streets Coalition has made great strides in outlining best practices in community-supportive street design. Their website features articles on the fundamentals of complete streets, as well as policy guides and a FAQ section on implementation.
