David Rawsthorne is a senior transportation engineer in the City of Vancouver's Active Transportation Branch. In his twenty-five years as a civil engineer he has designed transportation infrastructure ranging from freeway interchanges to local street traffic circles. For the past eleven years his work at the City of Vancouver in British Columbia has focused on improving the city?s quality of life by expanding its cycling infrastructure and addressing traffic issues on local residential streets. Most recently, his focus has been the development of separated bike lanes in and connecting to Vancouver's downtown. He lives with his wife and children in the Kitsilano neighbourhood of Vancouver, where he is fortunate to be able to walk to local shops and restaurants and has a pleasant 15 minute bike commute to work at City Hall.
