Martha Cortes is committed to improving the practices and policies affecting Latino communities in Los Angeles by using different academic and practical approaches. Ms. Cortes is driven to develop inter-agency collaboration, and has worked to promote educational advancement through collaborative research and partnerships. In Los Angeles, she has been involved in local efforts to engage schools, community organizations and agencies, and parents in the creation of strategies to promote positive youth development. Bridging the gap between K-12 education policies and community practices, Ms. Cortes serves as the Health Policy Coordinator for ABC where she manages the JUGAR (Joint Use Generating Physical Activity and Recreation) Project. Through her work with JUGAR project, Ms. Cortes seeks to increase physical activity by expanding opportunities for safe and attractive spaces.
