Peter Furth is a Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Northeastern University. He holds a PhD from MIT in Transportation Systems Analysis. Along with a wide range of research in public transportation and traffic signal control, he teaches and conducts research in bicycle facility design. He teaches an annual summer program in the Netherlands on sustainable transportation, through which he has become familiar with Dutch bikeway planning and design standards and practices. He is a contributor to the NACTO Bikeway Design Guide and author of research papers dealing with shared lane design and cycle track safety. He has developed bike network plans for two communities and is active in state and local bicycling advocacy organizations.
