Javier Hernandez can easily be described as a go-getter with an insatiable appetite for community mobilization and health promotion in underserved communities. To build upon his experience as a health education program manager, educator and avid cyclist, Javier founded Cyclertopia, to encourage people to adopt a healthier lifestyle by cycling for fun, fitness and commuting serving the central San Gabriel Valley region. Javier strongly believes in empowering communities, especially the youth by equipping them with the tools and knowledge necessary to create healthier and viable communities. Javier continues to pioneer effective strategies in the communities he serves by sharing his vision for complete streets. In partnership with the California Center for Public Health Policy, he created and implemented the Baldwin Park Cycler Program to educate youth about the importance of advocating for safer streets and encouraging physical activity. Fluent in Spanish, Javier is excited to implement innovative youth programs such as the Gang of Goodness, a youth leadership and empowerment program. This novel community-based program is designed to shift behaviors and perceptions toward living a healthier lifestyle.
