PPS analyzed and prepared recommendations for enhancing the comfort, attractiveness and accessibility of the various indoor and outdoor public spaces at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, used by visitors, patients, staff, students and faculty, as well as neighborhood people. Since beginning work in November 1997, PPS interviewed staff responsible for public spaces, conducted surveys and observations of the public space users, held meetings and discussions with the members of the Campus community committee, and completed a survey of students, faculty and staff. A workshop with campus staff and students elicited additional ideas and support, and identified potential groups which could become stewards for specific public spaces.
