A lively farmers' market located ajacent to the Central Park, in downtown Davis.

What makes it Great?

Why it doesn't work?

The park is what makes this market so amazing. The expansive grass space and good programming allows people to make an event of market shopping. People bring picnics, dance to the music and play football, while the market never loses its sense of purity and wholesomeness.

Access & Linkages

it's right in Davis downtown, well signed-posted and easily visible

Comfort & Image

There's enough people and enough space to feel comfortable sitting on the grass. It's a truely picnic-y atmosphere.

Uses & Activities

Wednesday evenings they have 'Picnic in the Park'. When I visited people were dancing, eating, sitting, holding balloons, going on children's fairground rides, playing frizzby and football, doing yoga, and shopping!

Sociability

an amazingly broad range of people vist the market

How Light?

How Quick?

How Cheap?

History & Background

Much of the credit for the success of the market must surely go to the Market Manager, Randii McNear, who positively bursts with energy and commitment. She runs a tight operation with a full events calendar - International Food Fayres, Jazz Music Nights etc.

Saturday Market hours: 8:AM - Noon, year round

Wednesday Market hours: April - September / 4:30 PM - 8:30 PM; October - March / 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM
