Spread This Idea

Intersection of Iowa and Pine Streets in Denver Heights Neighborhood

My idea to improve this place

A short term project is a community garden in one of the empty lots that is owned by the county using this corner-scape as a catalyst for development.

So that people could...

Interact, learn, mingle, enjoy their neighborhood. This intersection is filled with history from the early to mid 1900's. During times of segregation and civil rights, this corner once housed the Keyhole Club, a place where all cultures can listen to great artists play music and integrate themselves through entertainment. It also housed businesses like Leonard's Pharmacy, Han Lee Grocery store, and even a Ritz Theatre. It is now an empty but very busy intersection.

Because I want San Antonio to be...

a thriving city that not only improves its downtown areas but also the neighborhoods that surround it. Iowa is a perfect corridor from N. Braunfels to Frio Street that allows locals access to Hemisfair and UTSA as well as other venues. This place is so close to the heart of this city. It should be a place where history can be remembered as well as a place that creates change for future generations.
