The Street Level. An afterthought to the Riverwalk, needs same attention for a successful dntwn. Nice historic bldgs and storefronts, inadequate landscape, activities, shade....

My idea to improve this place

Connect to Mrkt Sq=Houston St as pedestrian-only market with shops and cart vendors. Alamo Plaza pedestrian-only b/w Commerce and Houston. More paseos/programmed alleys. Improve cxns to riverwalk.

So that people could... 

Inhabit the street as they do the Riverwalk. Improve commercial, entertainment, restaurant opportunities at street level. So that dntwn residents can have a place, too.

Because I want San Antonio to be...

Active/Attractive at street level as well at river level. People will bring more people.

Visiting Denver in December, we stayed on 16th St Mall. It was amazing how easily you could move up and down the street to shop and Southwest Airlines sponsored an Ice Skating Rink. It was awesome!

Alamo Plaza or Hemisphere Plaza, 0.02 Kms

Return the area around and in front of the Alamo chapel to it's 1836 size. Get rid of the sleaze across Alamo street and make the whole area a historical park we can be proud of.

Get rid of the tacky souvenir shops in Alamo Plaza. They do a disservice to the Alamo and our Texan heritage. Replace them with LOCAL restaurants and cafes with ourdoor seating.
