OMAHA RIVERFRONT IMPROVEMENT PLAN
none   none

Places: Site D: Bridge Plaza

View north shows placement of the bridge. The pedestrian bridge and plaza would be near the base of the silo, with bridge envisioned to be more than twice as high.
This site is the landing of the future pedestrian bridge, which, which, it is hoped, will become an icon for the City of Omaha as well as the entire state. Bridge Plaza, adjacent to the NPS site, will connect the riverfront to the Omaha Convention Center and Arena (to the west) and the Gallup University site (to the north). The colossal base of bridge stands to be the visual focal point of downtown Omaha, but the uses around are key to making it active and inviting.

LONG-TERM Changes: Comfort & Image

  • Provide a prominent water feature to mark the landing of the pedestrian bridge.
  • Use natural materials when designing and constructing the site.
  • Take advantage of "hanging" art opportunities presented by the bridge passing over the plaza. This would be an excellent opportunity to showcase art as well as transforming spaces "under" a bridge from negative to positive spaces.
