Visioning the Future of Lower Manhattan's Civic Amenities

Places: Liberty Loop

Imagine an electric trolley that could take you from the east side of Manhattan over to the west - and back again - through the WTC site.

The "Liberty Loop" proposal is meant to create better crosstown connections by developing Fulton and Liberty Streets as a pedestrian/transit route: an attractive street reserved for walkers and environmentally benign vehicles.

What's your take on the Liberty Loop proposal?

What's your take on the Liberty Loop proposal?

  • Do you feel private cars should be eliminated from Liberty and Fulton Streets?
  • Would the absence of cars make you more or less likely to walk on these streets?
  • What kind of public transport would you like to see on this loop - for instance, electric buses, trolleys, etc.?
  • Where do you think the Loop should end on the west side: in Battery Park City, or on West Street?
  • If private cars are eliminated, should the street be narrowed to increase sidewalk width?
  • What kinds of amenities would you like to see along the Loop - for instance, benches, bike racks, trees, info kiosks, directional signs, etc.?
  • If so, would cars be eliminated 24 hours per day, or during certain times - and if the latter, which times?

What do you think?
