The Place Poll

Special Year-End Edition

In this special edition of "The Place Poll," we invite you to judge all the 2002 nominees from our Great Public Spaces website. Comment on the places you know--your opinion will help determine which ones are truly great public spaces. With 85 nominees from 14 countries and 75 cities, you're bound to find a place you love... or loathe.

Streets

From the Las Vegas Strip to the Charles Bridge in Prague, this bunch is an eclectic mix indeed. Boulevards, transit stations, downtowns, and bridges are all represented here.

Markets

With nominees from 4 continents, this is the most geographically diverse category. Here you'll find open-air markets, covered markets, farmers markets, and bazaars.

Parks

The competition is fierce among parks, with 40 different places vying for recognition. Voice your opinion and help decide which worthy greenswards will make the cut.

Buildings

Paris's Pompidou Center is the most well-known of this group, but is it the most deserving?

Hall of Shame

Here they are folks, the bad apples. Are they really rotten to the core? Think carefully before you doom any of these places to eternal infamy.
