Placemaking--local efforts involving residents, city government, the business community, and other stakeholders to identify and revitalize underutilized public spaces--can provide a framework for design improvements that will transform a community's public spaces into a network of vital, comfortable community places. The process upgrades existing public spaces through small-scale, short-term projects such as traffic calming, pedestrian improvements and street furniture.
In partnership with Livable Oregon, PPS conducted placemaking workshops in cities and towns across the state of Oregon, and this 15-minute video uses these towns as case studies to illustrate the principles of placemaking.
Livable Oregon is a nonprofit charitable organization of concerned citizens, businesses and public officials who believe that through appropriate investment and management, Oregon's economy can grow without jeopardizing the unique qualities of its communities and countryside.
