Campaigns and Advocacy

Making great public spaces the norm rather than the exception depends on introducing new ideas to professional disciplines and local governments. When these crucial decision-makers take on the goal of creating places, sweeping improvements follow. That's why PPS pursues systemic change in all our program areas, through campaigns and advocacy that leverage our resources and expertise to achieve broad impacts.

PPS develops campaigns for specific cities, engaging public agencies and community leaders in Placemaking through our Great Cities Initiative. We also advocate for change within disciplines, showing how architects, planners, transportation engineers, and other professionals can adopt a Placemaking approach.

Great Cities Initiative
The Great Cities Initiative expands PPS's Placemaking techniques into a comprehensive yet flexible process cities can use to improve themselves, place by place, neighborhood by neighborhood.
Placemaking in New York
What makes New York City special is the energy of local residents, activists and entrepreneurs, who infuse the city with life and constant change. PPS and the New York City Streets Renaissance Campaign tap into this passion to help communities define and promote their own visions for a more livable New York.
