In his capacity as editor of PPS's Making Places newsletter, Ben has communicated the lessons of PPS's research and project work to a growing audience of over 25,000 planners, designers, engineers, activists, public officials, artists, and concerned citizens. Ben has also written about topical issues ranging from London's congestion pricing mechanism to the public space qualities of the Seattle Public Library. Articles he has authored and edited have appeared in Landscape Architecture, New York Newsday, Progressive Architecture, Municipal World, Designer/Builder, and Parking.
Ben is heavily involved in PPS publications. He is one of the primary authors of a guide from the US General Services Administration designed to help federal property managers evaluate and improve their public spaces. He has also contributed substantially to a forthcoming book about steps every person can take to improve the public spaces in their neighborhood. In addition, he has produced case studies and articles for clients such as the San Mateo County Transit District.
Ben joined the staff of PPS in late 2000 as a project assistant, helping to organize the Great Parks/Great Cities conference in July 2001 and contributing to the redesign and maintenance of Urban Parks Online. After the conference he turned his attention to PPS's communications and advocacy efforts, working to launch the PPS membership program and the Making Places newsletter.
