Elena Madison is an urban planner with a focus on park and square planning, neighborhood planning and organizing and pedestrian enhancements. In the five years since she joined PPS, Elena has managed and contributed to a number of PPS’ most recent and exciting projects in park and plaza planning, transportation, neighborhood development, and international training and technical assistance.
Recently, she managed a placemaking and visioning effort with NJDOT for an area along a state highway in Newark, which resulted in a concept for a new mixed-use residential development along the main spine of the neighborhood. Currently, she is managing a collaborative effort with the local Community Development Corporation on a façade improvement and streetscape enhancement study and guidelines for the same neighborhood in Newark. She is working on a number of pedestrian and park initiatives throughout the United States, and abroad: a pedestrian crossing study for Ohio State University in Columbus, OH; an intermodal access study in Jamaica, Queens; a plan for a new park and downtown square in a new mixed-use development in Ontario, CA; a neighborhood plaza in Washington DC; a neighborhood street enhancement and public space plan in San Fancisco, CA; a downtown square redevelopment plan in Krusevac, Serbia.
Elena has experience working on park and open space plans, downtown squares and street enhancement plans, pedestrian access studies and user analysis. She has managed large team initiatives, as well as smaller projects, and has conducted numerous placemaking initiatives, workshops and trainings.
Elena joined PPS in 2001 after obtaining her Master’s Degree in Urban Planning and completing a year long internship with the organization.
