Festhalle Kristkindl Markt
First Street, adjacet to the Missouri Riverfront
Submitted by: Joan Treis
Historic Festhalle in the heart of old town area, settled by German Immigrants in the 1840s.
The Markt is a massive brick building with old world ambiance in the heart of Missouri. Adjacent to river gives one the feeling of being on the Rhine in some small German town. Stenciled friezes, deer mounts, stone fireplace and artifacts that were all acquired on trips to Germany decorate the place.
What Makes Festhalle Kristkindl Markt a Great Place?
In the heart of the downtown business district, totally restored corner building. Large gilt deer stands on canopy over the door front. Easy access from Amtrak, near the Missouri River Bridge and main highway access into town.
Excellent comfort image, equal men and women, no vehicles dominate the space, maintained and restored with large painted German style graphics on the exterior of the brick facade.
Used for Oktoberfest and a weekend event sponsored by the Hermann Arts Council: The Kristkindl Markt at the Festhalle (see www.hermannarts.com) for details on the markt.
The mood at holiday time is amazing, there are lots of festivities, and there is a great spirit and mood to the place. It is a meeting place yes, now holding community music festivals, dances, Mardi Gras events, etc.
