The park offers Gorgeous views of boats in the harbor, plenty of space to walk, and benches to sit on. Many restaurants overlook the waterfront for an enjoyable dining experience.
What Makes Susan B. Campbell Park a Great Place?
The park is easy to walk to, and you can also arrive by bus. It can be viewed from Main Street and the various shops. As there is limited parking in the immediate area, cars can be parked at Naval Academy stadium, and a shuttle bus transports people into town.
The City keeps the park very clean. It is visited by families with children and pets. There is limited parking in the area for cars. There are public rest rooms available.
There are a lot of activities to draw people to the park. People can walk around or sit on benches. The Naval Academy band holds concerts on Tuesday nights in the summer, a jazz band plays on Thursday nights, and the Maritime Concert Series features songs of the sea on Wednesdays at lunchtime aboard a traditional workboat.
There are many private boats are anchored in slips. Tour boats offer rides in the harbor, up the Severn River, and across the Chesapeake Bay, a water taxi is available for local trips. Two boat shows happen in October, the power boat show and the sailboat show. Other special events include the Maritime Festival in April, which celebrates life on the Chesapeake Bay, and the Volvo Ocean Race, which was held here in 2002 and will return in 2006. Of course, fire works are held on the 4th of July, and also at First Night celebration on New Year’s Eve.
The mood is very relaxed, and people are polite. There is a mix of locals and tourists. People enjoy showing off their dogs in the park.
