St. George's Market
Belfast, Northern Ireland
Submitted by: Andrew Irvine
A variety market specializing in vast range of food and flowers.
St. Georgeís Market has 248 market stalls, occupied by 119 market traders. Saturday is especially good, with live music provided on an alternate weeks by a jazz band, a brilliant Irish harpist, and one of Irelandís leading solo guitarists. This is the way shopping should be!
What Makes St. George's Market a Great Place?
A free bus runs to the market every 20 minutes from Belfast City Hall, through the main retail shopping zone to the market.
Great smells of food cooking, a vast sea of colour with all the fruit, vegetables and flower displays. You can sit and enjoy the best of teas and coffees while listening the music and savouring the smells and tastes of the market place.
When not in use a market, St. George's is now one of Belfast's prime entertainment and exhibition venues.
Some 6000 people shop in the market on any market day, the atmosphere is one of a hearty warm Irish welcome and plenty of 'craic' (fun).
