Outstanding promenade with one of the great views in the world: the Golden Gate of San Francisco Bay. Historical buildings, play spaces, natural estuary restored last year, various activity spaces.

What Makes Crissy Field a Great Place?

Accessable by all modes, bus service, popular bike and foot destination.

Automobile presence is calm; primarily a pedestrian space; clean and maintained by Golden Gate National Recreation Area

Entire field is used for range of activities: windsurfing, walking; picnics; kites; skating, more.

This is a world destination; people of all nations and colors; civil behavior; a showpiece for residents.

Yes, it's a five-star, breathtaking public space. So get the name right! It's CRISSY Field, named after pioneer aviator Dana H. Crissy (who died in a crash on the way there and never saw the place).

In response to the previous comment: Yes, you got the spelling right but Maj. Crissy DID "see the place." A race was being held by the Army across the continent. 46 planes started westward, 15 -- including Crissy -- headed eastward. Maj. Crissy was killed attemptling to land his plane near Salt Lake City on his first day out of San Francisco.
