Why It Works

The Ithaca Farmers Market has a permanent home on the waterfront of Cayuga Lake. The site includes a large covered pavilion that snakes along the inlet, a picnic area, docking facilities and extensive parking. The market features fresh, locally-grown produce, as well as plants, specialty baked goods, meats and cheeses, wine, condiments, ready-to-eat delectables and a wide assortment of art, crafts, clothing and furniture. All products are made or grown within a 30-mile radius. Open Saturday 9am-2pm (April-December), Sunday 10am-2pm (Mid June--October).

What Makes Ithaca Farmers Market a Great Place?

The Ithaca Farmers Market is accessible by foot, car, boat or bike. Soon a new waterfront trail will connect the market to other attractions throughout the whole southern tip of Cayuga Lake as well. People within the community use the space to shop or just socialize, and visitors travel from outside the area because of the great selection and feel of the community representation. Plenty of parking is available, as well as docking facilities for boaters.

The market's calming presence takes over as you walk through ivy- and flower-covered trellises that separate the parking lot from market stands. Seating is available on hand-carved benches at the waterfront, or grass embankments for afternoon lounging while watching Cornell University Crew matches. Everyone does their part with clean-up, from litter to messes made by pets (which are welcome).

The inviting space of the Farmers Market is used a large portion of the year, and draws crowds on colder winter weekends as well as warm July weekends. Individuality is certainly represented in full at the Farmers Market through art, music, food, and many other mediums, just as it is always fully represented throughout all of Ithaca.

People feel comfortable to travel to the Farmers Market with a group of friends, or to go it alone and meet a group of new friends. The atmosphere is very inviting, laid back and relaxing.
