Among the topics covered will be: building awareness and donor bases; building a persuasive case for support; and cultivating donors and corporate sponsorship. WORKSHOP: Serious Games: Advanced Tools for Managing Parks SOLD OUT!
Participants will use their urban parks expertise to help design a cutting-edge, computer game-based simulation for parks. This versatile tool is designed to help park managers, planners, policymakers, and users explore the complexities and challenges involved in managing a wide range of parks: from neighborhood playgrounds, greenways, and flagship urban parks to state recreation areas and national parks. The game is being developed by the Foresight and Governance Project, the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, Digitalmill, Inc., and a team of game developers as part of Woodrow Wilson Institute's "Serious Games" initiative. For more information on the project, visit www.seriousgames.org.

TOUR: Prospect Park Youth Council: Ravine Restoration Tour
Join the Prospect Park Youth Council for a tour of the recently restored Ravine, Binnenwater and surrounding woodlands. The woodlands and steep slopes of the 100-foot-deep gorge had been subjected to decades of heavy use and soil erosion, and many of the ravine's smaller pools had became so filled with silt that they disappeared completely. Along with the Alliance's Natural Resources Crew, and volunteers, the Youth Council's Woodland Crew played a crucial role in the massive restoration effort, including soil stabilization and the replanting of hundreds of thousands of plants. This tour will serve as a lead-in to "Getting Past the Goalie: Youth Involvement in Parks" later in the afternoon, which will explore the full scope of the Youth Council's work in and on behalf of the park.
