Places: West Street - Ideas & Proposals

West Street (Route 9A) is a major north-south connector for Manhattan, and carries a high volume of local traffic to Battery Park City over its two-mile run between Canal Street and Battery Place. It also traverses several key east-west connecting streets (Chambers, Vesey, Liberty, Rector). There have been numerous proposals over the years to mitigate the barriers that this 260-foot-wide street presents to Battery Park City, to pedestrians, and to local traffic traveling between the heart of downtown and the waterfront. The proposals listed below are under review by the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation. (To give your input on specific areas of West Street, click here.)
