Places: West Street - Ideas & Proposals
West Street (Route 9A) is a major north-south connector for Manhattan, and carries a high volume of local traffic to Battery Park City over its two-mile run between Canal Street and Battery Place. It also traverses several key east-west connecting streets (Chambers, Vesey, Liberty, Rector). There have been numerous proposals over the years to mitigate the barriers that this 260-foot-wide street presents to Battery Park City, to pedestrians, and to local traffic traveling between the heart of downtown and the waterfront.
