About the Project

Project for Public Spaces is working with the Town of New Castle to make Downtown Chappaqua, through its public spaces, a destination and a village center for its residents.

The project's goal is to integrate the road into its business district and its civic center for the benefit of local people, including residents, businesses, commuters, and school children.

This initiative is looking at South Greeley St., North Greeley St., King St., and Quaker Rd. as local streets in need of humanizing with improved pedestrian access. The focus is on creating "special places" in key destinations along Greeley and King Street, such as the New Castle Community Center, the train station, and multiple sidewalk cafes, all of which have the potential to become more active and attractive destinations.

The Process

Our approach to the planning and design of public spaces is based in creating a community vision for Downtown Chappaqua through a series of meetings, stakeholder interviews, and community Placemaking workshops.

The purpose of this site is to keep the communications channels open for additional input, ideas, and recommendations.
