The Town of New Castle, New York is looking to enhance the identity of downtown Chappaqua as a vibrant town center. This renewed community vision for the downtown will help ensure that the town grows and matures in an integrated way that best supports the community. We are seeking citizen input regarding how Downtown Chappaqua can best serve the community.
"Placemaking" workshops were held on October 14 and November 2, 2006, facilitated by Project for Public Spaces, Inc., to brainstorm ideas and craft plans to create a vision for downtown Chappaqua. We present the results of the workshops here and ask you to give us your comments as well.
Your recommendations, along with those that emerged at the workshops, will set the stage for the next step: the long-term vision and conceptual plan for Downtown Chappaqua. Your vision will guide the potential future development of Chappaqua and help enhance the vitality and economic viability of the downtown. The workshops focused on the streets and intersections, participants also considered the broader community that surrounds and makes the downtown what it is today - the sidewalks, parks, buildings, and other public spaces - and how together they could become the setting for interaction between people and foster a healthier, more sociable community.
We welcome your ideas and vision!
