I am the director at a six acre historic site in the midst of a diverse low income community in Oakland California. We are toiling singelhandedly in a bankrupt but wonderful city, discovering by ourselves many of the ideas I am reading about on your website, and making them real and concrete and involving community members of a dazzling array of races, ethnicities and cultures. We are creating a new model for many types of institution, among them “the museum.” Where museums are chasing relevance, we have it 24/7 because we are so involved with the community surrounding the site. We have a lot to offer others, and a lot to learn in this roller coaster. Please contact me to come and see this site and brainstorm and help us to to understand the field of placemaking.
