		<description><![CDATA[[...] Ciclovía, a concept popularized by the city of Bogotá, Colombia, temporarily closes streets to vehicular traffic, allowing people to walk, bike, skate, dance and utilize the roadways in countless creative and active ways.  The term, which loosely translates from Spanish into English as &#8220;bike path&#8221;, is also often referred to in the United States as Open Streets, Summer Streets, or Sunday Streets.  Ciclovías promote the use of active transportation by encouraging participants to bicycle and walk not just on the day of the event but as part of their daily lives.  They enable participants to rethink how their streets are used and encourage many citizens who do not travel by walking or bicycling to try those modes in a safe, vibrant and exciting environment.  Additionally, the events bring together residents and enable them to become more active in their community.  By physically connecting diverse city neighborhoods, Ciclovías can help bridge many racial, economic, and cultural divides and promote exploration of unfamiliar places and interaction outside of normal social boundaries.
