Project for Public Spaces is pleased to announce their involvement in the New York City Partnership for Food & Fitness; a $500,000 grant project funded by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. The project is a partnership of public and private organizations formed to identify and recommend ways to introduce and promote healthy eating and physical activity into the daily lives of more New Yorkers. The other participating groups include the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services, the New York City Health Department, the City Council Speaker's Office, the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, FoodChange, and Transportation Alternatives.
PPS is excited about this unique opportunity to evaluate and improve certain New York neighborhoods in a holistic, healthy way. One important facet of this project will be the collaborative work between local community organizations and the project partners to change their neighborhoods' physical landscape and food access. This project is a perfect example of our effort, through the New York City Campaign, to help positively effect change for our city and all of its citizens.
