Found spaces is what they are called. I am happy that Abu Dhabi has found some. The problem, from a planning viewpoint, is that these spaces are not planned, and can not be controlled, and they are inherently temporary. My best advice, try to ‘go with the flow’ and supply folks with what they need at any given point in time. I am reminded of what the actress Mae West said about snow — “You don’t know where its coming from. You don’t know how many inches you’re gonna get. And you don’t know how long it’s going to stay on the ground.” Accpet it. Allocate spaces accordingly, and do the bare minimum to assist in lifer-safety matters. And, for God’s sake, don’t feel complelled to plan these spaces.
