With Scenic America, a national non-profit based in Washington D.C. dedicated to preserving public lands from invasive development and visual blight, PPS is able to reach a larger and more diverse audience with the message of holistic, context sensitive transportation planning.
We share a common goal: the preservation and enhancement of the public realm. Beauty, utility, comfort, safety, sociability, connectivity and "sense of place" should all be embedded characteristics of our public realm, yet thus far, these characteristics are all-too-often absent from our public spaces. We know that our common goal of improving public spaces will be more efficiently and effectively advanced if we work in tandem, not separately, and that a "market" for our joint place-making services exists. That is why we launched this Partnership for Placemaking.
Together, Scenic America and PPS will continue to research and advocate for better streets, highways and corridors through briefing papers, newsletters, and a forthcoming joint portal web site about placemaking and transportation. Scenic America is also a strategic partner in developing the Content Sensitive Solutions Resource Center for the Federal Highway Administration, positioned to be the industry standard for context sensitive projects for a broad range of audiences.
