Canal Park Advocates, a citizens’ group in Indianapolis, Indiana is very concerned about the erosion of public spaces. We’re trying to persuade Governor Mitch Daniels to dedicate a downtown park on one-acre of state-owned land instead of another unneeded hotel. We have secured newly-elected Mayor Greg Ballard’s support of our park proposal, but still need to persuade the Governor, as well as the powers who are planning the Indianapois Cultural Trail which adjoins the property.

PPS recently recognized the Indianapolis Cultural Trail project. But the Cultural Trail program needs to be more proactive in protecting the fast-disappearing adjacent civic spaces in Indianapolis.
