A worker tending to the plants in the Greenhouse at Al-Azhar Park

What: A new hilltop park in the midst of one of Cairo’s most interesting neighborhoods.

Why it Works:

It has been planned with a multitude of activities in mind and incorporates a conceptualized hilltop lookout kiosk, a children’s play area, an amphitheater and stage, playing fields, a viewing plaza and a historical wall promenade. The construction of this green space, which is now the city’s largest, incorporated social programs for the surrounding poor, overpopulated neighborhood, which used to be frequented by drug dealers.
