This past April we announced Heart of the Community, our multi-year partnership with Southwest Airlines, in San Antonio’s newly reopened Travis Park. Through Heart of the Community we will help communities across the country bring new life to their public spaces, raise mainstream awareness of Placemaking, and encourage participation and volunteerism that benefit public spaces.
A key part of Heart of the Community are our projects. We work with local partners to develop a vision for a public space and we fund the implementation of physical improvements, expanded amenities, and programming through a direct grant. So far we have completed projects in Detroit, Providence, and San Antonio and have several more underway right now.
We plan to complete projects in more cities as the program grows, and are currently accepting applications for 2015 projects through September 15, 2014. If you are passionate about Placemaking and have a project that meets our criteria, send a request for application materials to HOTC@pps.org soon so you can get an application in before the deadline.
