Kurt Wheeler

Program Manager, Market Cities
kwheeler@pps.org

Kurt manages all Market Cities Program activities, including projects, trainings, conferences, and the Market Cities Network. She also contributes to strategic planning and communications.

Kurt’s early career in international education inspired her to learn about all of the intangible elements that make cities feel the way they do. Her experience researching street vending policy in grad school deepened her interest in supporting these microbusinesses and allowed her the opportunity to learn more about public markets. In 2014, Kurt consulted on the 9th International Public Markets Conference in Barcelona and has been involved with our nonprofit ever since. She’s thrilled that her work here enables her to explore a lot of her interests related to cities and planning while working on markets, some of the most unique and beloved public spaces out there.

Her interests include playing tennis, sampling the culinary delights of Queens, and practicing drums.

Favorite Public Space

"I love pretty much any cemetery—the headstones are fun to peruse and I like a quiet moment—but Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn has the best flowering trees in the city, spectacular views of New York Harbor, and is home to a colony of green monk parakeets!"
